More info... CAM048CD - "Hymn of the Master" by Black Sun Ensemble.
A new Black Sun Ensemble line up spent the the first half of 2001 working on the first full-length Black Sun Ensemble recording in more than seven years. The project was recorded at BSE's own SlowBurn production studio, mixed by Duncan Hudson at Tucson's Tortuga Studios and the final mastering work was done by Giant Sand engineer, Craig Schumacher. The resulting "Hymn of the Master", with Jesus Acedo on guitar and vocals, Eric Johnson on bass, guitar, vocals and keyboards, Brian Maloney on saxophone, nickel clarinet and sitar, and Otto Terrorist on the drums, is quite extraordinary, and will turn perceptions of the band on their ear. [More]

CAM049CD - "Reverb Saved My Life" by Patrick Porter.
Patrick Porter is one half of space-pop duo Phineas Gage. "Reverb Saved My Life" takes a series of home recordings made by the 18 year old Porter in 1996-97 (prior to the Phineas Gage's "Reconsidered" CD) as raw material, and adds, thickens, ferments, remixes and remasters them into hypnotic stream of interstellar pop that transcends most limitations of the original recordings. Awakened with layers of guitar bliss and new drum tracks replacing electronic percussion, this is a treat for lovers of both psychedelic folk rock and dream-pop.  [More]

CAM051CD - "Eastern Terrace" by Sand Pebbles
Debut CD for Melbourne, Australia band the Sand Pebbles, who created a noise with their earlier Camera Obscura 7" (CAM042S- accurately described in Melbourne's Inpress magazine as "an informed and doughty synthesis of 60s fuzz-pop and creative film scoring"). This one is chock-full of soulful, guitar-driven sunset psychedelia, from shimmering SP3 style pop-songs to acid-country balladeering to extended soundtrack rock bliss-out instrumentals.  [More] (US$15.00 shipped anywhere)

CAM053CD - "The Navigator Closes His Eyes" by Dunlavy
Scott Grimm follows up his acclaimed 2001 releases "The Alison Effect" (CAM043CD) and "King of All He Surveys" (from our friends at Fleece Records) with an equally strong set of tracks, which, like "The Alison Effect", benefit from collaboration with ex-Mike Gunner and current Project Grimm meister John Cramer. Their best yet, "Navigator" is a lysergic stew of space-drone rockers, twisted monologues backed by chainsaw riffing, and brilliant progressive rock workouts. [More]

CAM054LP - "Tigris and Euphrates" by SubArachnoid Space and Bardo Pond
Two dreadnaughts of the higher-key improvised rock scene deliver side long wormholes through consciousness, hurtling into territories only rarely visited by rock musicians. Visions of antiquity are hurled through hyperspace gateways as these cosmonaut collectives compete over who can damage the most neurotransmitters - theirs and yours. Pressed on delicious Czech Republic vinyl, with full-colour meditational sleeve art, and insert with exclusive drawing by Bardo Pond's Clint Takeda.

CAM045CD - "Northern Gothic" by the Green Pajamas
Camera Obscura welcomes the Green Pajamas back where they belong for a new full-length studio release after several forays on Woronzow/Rubric over the last two years. ("Seven Fathoms Down and Falling" and "This is Where We Disappear"). Fittingly, "Northern Gothic" is the Green Pajamas strongest work since 1998's "All Clues Lead to Meagan's Bed". It's moved on in style from that masterwork, though, containing their darkest and most atmospheric recordings to date, the maximum safe dose of Kelly's psychedelic guitar work, superb contributions from other voices within the band, and an intricate thematic integrity that  rescues the idea of the "concept album" from bad progressive rock hell.
