When Houston heavy psych legends The Mike Gunn finally imploded in 1994, various shards went on to new endeavors. Guitarist John Cramer formed Project Grimm, now one of hardest working live acts in the space city. Guitarist Tom Carter went on to create an extraordinary body of work as part of the Charalambides. Drummer Curt Mackey, disappeared to do who knows what, and has recently returned from the wilderness to the Houston scene. One of the most intriguing aftershocks of The Mike Gunn is bassist Scott Grimm's Dunlavy. Recordings from Scott's home studio have surfaced periodically. In the mid-90s, German "head" label September Gurls put out the "I Ruined America" and "The Spinning Dog" LPs. More recently Houston's Fleece Records releases the "Thaumaticron 2" and "John Merkel Is A Miracle" LPs. And a third CD on Fleece, "King Of All He Surveys", was released in mid-2001, as was Dunlavy's well-received first release on Camera Obscura, "The Alison Effect". Dunlavy played live for the first time in July 2002 at a recent Texas psych showcase as a benefit to the UK fanzine Ptolemaic Terrascope, sharing the bill with 60s Texas psych legends Golden Dawn. In October 2002, Camera Obscura will issue the seventh Dunlavy full-length release "The Navigator Closes His Eyes". Scott's future plans include remixes of the first two albums, as well as a double CD collection of early four track recordings (including a radio play called "Journey to Planet X, Part I") to be known as "Thrilling Science Stories". Though they may never happen, since Scott appears to have withdrawn from thr scene at least for the moment.
